Hands-on review: ZVEX Effects Fuzz Probe

I own the W255 Natural Encore 6 string. I play solo but I have been playing for 30 years.

I purchased this Guitar from Argos for £69.99, the reason for the purchase was that I own several good quality Acoustic guitars but I wanted a guitar that I could carry aronnd for just knock about use at this price I thouhgt it ideal.

This guitar gave me quite a shock, the Action at the nut was very precise the well cut nut better than my more expensive guitars, the action was 3mm at the 12th fret I have taken this to 2.2mm and a very slight adjustment of the truss rod to reduce the relief and lo and behold this guitar plays like a dream I use Adamas Silk and Steel strings on the guitar it helps to make it sound more mellow, it can be quite loud as it has a Laminate Constuction but don't fall into the trap of the Solid improve with age theory trust your ears and fingers Laminate can be just as good if the guitar is well constucted and you can pick up a bargain and have a guitar that you get on really well with.

I have no complaints with this Guitar at all and play it more than My others these days.

I don't know if I have been just lucky with my Encore but it is made beautifuly for the money, I changed the scratch plate to a special patterned unit from e-bay for £2.00.It is a very good guitar they are so much better than back in the seventies when they had cricket bat necks and egg slicer actions.

I wish I could have found this guitar years ago I would have saved a lot of time and money I could never aspire or justify owning a top quality Gibson or Martin however I have played many, and I do own a £600.00 Takamine electro, but believe it or not which one do I pick up all of the time and could have sold a hundred times the Encore W255, yes I have 2 guitar playing friends that are really envious of this guitar,it could be a one off we have tried some others that are not quite the same, but I think with a set-up they could well be another winner, they say that Laminates don't improve with age well this one has and I don't think it is finished yet!
